Annual Assessment Coaching Encounter
Capture the Meaning of the Past and Purpose of the Future
Time passes faster and faster. Valuable things of the past are lost to history while the future arrives before we are ready. The challenge for leaders today is to consciously carry forward what is important from the past and intentionally create the future.
The Annual Assessment Retreat guides individuals and couples in leadership to the meaning of the past twelve months and in co-designing the future for themselves and those they lead. This retreat captures and stewards the values, accomplishments and trends already attained. It also imagines what the next year holds and creates a roadmap that includes the direction, mile markers, and traveling companions. The result is a holistic and inspiring vision with a realistic approach.
This retreat is born out of an annual tradition for Next Step coach Brian Dowd and his wife Amber. He writes, “Each year on the first weekend in January we have a getaway to reflect back on what was important from the last year. This brings us meaning and satisfaction from how we’ve spent the last year. It also brings the occasion to revisit unresolved issues. It has a way of bringing a sense of wholeness. We also dream for the upcoming year. If we could do anything we wanted these next twelve months, what would it be? What will it take to get there? We also take time to anticipate the changes we know will come. One significant change that we were able to prepare for was the death of my grandpa. Of course, we didn’t know when that would happen, but acknowledging its coming prepared my soul and affected some scheduling choices I made. When he passed away I had no regrets.”
The retreat is conducted on site over two days of learning and facilitated personal work. Follow up one-on-one coaching via telephone ensures the forward progress desired. There are four parts to the Annual Assessment Retreat; each one of them is a stimulus for reflection and a source for reward.
- Mining the Meaning: Reflection on the Past Year
This facilitates a review of significant accomplishments and events on a timeline. What were the important accomplishments, events and themes from the past year? Understanding the past brings satisfaction to the present and direction for the future.
- 12 Months of Dreams, Desires and Plans.
The second section considers what you would like your next year to look like in twelve life categories. Your personal plans are then discussed with your spouse to reach alignment together. Many plans have crashed without the proper synchronization with a spouse.
- Milestones and Intentions
The third section considers the steps and milestones each objective will take. These are then plotted on a twelve month calendar to see the intentional path towards those objectives.
- The Already Known and Proper Preparation
The fourth section considers the changes to come in the next year that are already known. It asks, what are they, when will they occur and how would you like to prepare for them? It’s preparation for no regrets.
Depending on the location and site arrangements, the cost of the Annual Assessment Coaching Encounter varies. Please contact us to discuss what might work for your context.
